MOV is Apple's QuickTime container and the default format for videos recorded on iPhones, iPads and many cameras. It plays fine on a Mac, but Windows apps, Android phones, smart TVs, websites and social platforms often expect MP4. This MOV to MP4 converter changes the file to MP4 directly in your browser using ffmpeg.wasm. The video is never uploaded, which matters for personal clips, client footage and anything you would rather not hand to an online converter.
Lossless fast copy versus re-encoding
MOV and MP4 are closely related containers that can hold the same H.264 or HEVC video and AAC audio. When Fast copy is enabled, the converter first tries to move those streams into an MP4 container unchanged. This takes only seconds, even for long clips, and the quality is identical to the original. If the MOV uses a codec MP4 cannot hold, such as ProRes, or if you untick the option, the video is re-encoded to H.264 with AAC audio. Balanced quality suits most uses, High keeps more detail at a larger size and Small file is handy for email and messaging.
Compatibility tips
iPhones record in HEVC by default; a fast-copied file keeps HEVC, which modern devices play but some older TVs and Windows machines without the HEVC extension do not. If the MP4 will not play somewhere, convert again with Fast copy unticked to get universally supported H.264. Re-encoding a long 4K video in the browser is slower than on a desktop app and needs free memory, so close other heavy tabs. To make the file smaller afterwards, use the video compressor.
