Video Converter: MP4 to WebM or WebM to MP4
Convert videos between MP4 and WebM in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm. No uploads, no server processing and no signup.
🔒 Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploadedConvert video formats without uploading
MP4 and WebM are two of the most useful formats for everyday video work. MP4 is accepted by phones, messaging apps, editors, presentation tools and most upload forms. WebM is popular for modern websites because it can provide efficient compression and works well in browsers. This converter lets you move between those formats when a site, app or publishing workflow expects a different container than the one you have.
The conversion happens entirely on your device. When you choose a video, the page loads ffmpeg.wasm only when it is needed, writes the file into the browser engine and creates the new file in memory. There is no cloud queue and no remote copy of your source video. That makes the tool useful for drafts, client previews, private recordings and social clips that should stay on your computer until you decide to share them.
MP4 for compatibility, WebM for the web
MP4 is the safest default when you are unsure where the video will be played. The tool encodes MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio when the browser build supports those codecs, then uses a practical fallback if that encoder path is not available. WebM is a good choice for pages, demos and browser-first distribution. It tries VP9 video with Opus audio first, with a WebM fallback for environments where VP9 is not present.
Quality and performance tips
Transcoding is more expensive than simply renaming a file. The browser must decode the original media and encode it again, so large videos can take time and memory. Keep the original until you have reviewed the download, especially if you plan to upload it somewhere important. The first conversion may pause while the WebAssembly engine downloads, but after that the same page can reuse the engine for additional files in the current tab.
